Dwuza Trade Bead Pillow
Dwuza (Doo-er) means “sun” in Chichewa. kanju’s Dwuza Pillow features a sunburst design of ostrich shell beads (lightly textured white beads drilled by hand from ostrich egg shells), bone, lucite abalone, and hammershell sequins radiating around a single cast bronze bead.
Beneath thatched roofs and in the shade of mango trees, kanju artisans sew, bead and embroider pillow covers made with South African plush cotton linen in vibrant and subtle hues, embellished with unique trade beads sourced from across Africa and across ancient Afro-Asian trade routes, some of them centuries old. Each pillow is French-seamed and features a concealed zipper closure and down pillow insert.
