7ed. series. Each photographic relief diorama in South African fine art photographer Sandy McLea’s Idle Quarters series is composed of three-dimensionally altered images of abandoned building interiors in Kolmanskop, a ghost town in the Namibian desert. Artworks are constructed by bending and joining prints of the walls, floor, and doors from multiple angles so that a viewer’s sense of perspective is altered and warped when experiencing each work. The artist conceals details around hidden corners, through cracks and partially ajar doors, and this meticulous precision is apparent at even microscopic levels of inspection, creating a sense of awe and discovery each time a work is studied.
