kanju sources colored glass bottles from the areas surrounding our studios in southern Africa to use in our Tumbled Glass Chandeliers. Bottles are chipped to size and turned for two days in a homemade tumbler filled with local lake water and sand to soften edges and achieve a frosted finish. Strands of glass are connected by either steel or copper wire and hang from concentric steel hoops in graduated lengths. Available in several colors and sizes.

The word kanju translates to “creativity born of struggle” or “making more with less.” Nothing could be truer of the exquisite pieces and talented artisans with whom kanju works across the African continent.
