Historically, textile has been a method for conveying important cultural information and often played a central role in festivities and ceremonies in Africa. At kanju we designed the Heritage Collection to celebrate ongoing and preserved textile traditions. The Heritage Collection is comprised of contemporary designs that incorporate authentic and ethically sourced textiles in a variety of mix-and-match cozy designs for the eclectic contemporary space.

To create Kuba cloth, a time-honored technique passed down for generations among the Kuba people of Congo, men gather raffia tree leaves and dye them using indigo, colored silt, and camwood tree oil in layered and rhythmic geometric patterns.
