STORY

The African Touch designs functional furniture as art

Their master-craftsmen hand build and finish these creations from the finest African hardwoods, natural leather and solid brass into affordable, beautiful pieces that will uplift your space and last for generations.

They have been handcrafting furniture in their Victoria Falls workshop since 1992. Surrounded by some of the finest and hardest of hardwoods, and it was an interesting journey learning how to craft this beautiful natural resource into fine furniture. The extreme density of the timber has meant they have had to evolve tools and methods of work unknown in other joinery shops.

The age-old skills of the master cabinet maker are largely lost in the modern world. In Africa, people work with wood from a young age. The well educated people of Zimbabwe therefore make ideal candidates to learn the skills of the master craftsmen. The furniture built reflects the qualities of the materials used and the superb skills of the craftsmen. All senior craftsmen have a share in the business.

They are committed to never compromise the high standards and fine quality of their work as well as our design principles and attention to detail. Unique design and a great respect for the raw product is what makes owning one of our furniture pieces so sought after.

Care & Maintenance

Before delivery, your Mara Safari Chair is treated with two coats of The African Touch Furniture Oil. To maintain its finish, reapply furniture oil when it appears faded or dry, following these steps:

  1. Clean the surface with a cotton cloth dampened with mineral turpentine, ensuring it's completely dry and clean.
  2. Apply the oil using a clean cotton cloth or soft brush, using light, short strokes for even coverage.
  3. Let the oil sit for 1 to 2 hours, but no longer than 24 hours, for absorption.
  4. Wipe off excess oil with a clean cloth for a smooth finish.
  5. Allow to dry for 24 hours.
