“Ileli” (Ladder) is a hand-sculpted ceramic vase from Andile Dyalvane’s “Views from the Studio” Collection, a series inspired by the industrial skyline of Cape Town’s harbor. Created as the artist gazed out from his studio window, each piece captures fleeting moments of reflection—telephone wires, passing trains, cranes, and city structures—transformed into tactile lines and incised gestures across the clay surface.
Dyalvane, co-founder of Imiso Ceramics, draws from his Xhosa heritage and the elemental forces of earth, fire, water, and air, merging urban rhythm with ancestral energy. The result is a sculptural vessel that celebrates both the beauty of everyday life and the power of creative observation. Handmade from stoneware clay, Ileli embodies balance, elevation, and quiet strength.
