Rooted in heritage and rich in texture, the Askari Trade Bead Pillow is a sculptural tribute to African artistry and sustainable luxury. Named after the Swahili word “Askari”—meaning soldier or guardian—this bold design features recycled metal embellishments framed by shimmering hammershell sequins and antique beads, many of which are sourced from across Africa and may be centuries old.

Handmade beneath thatched roofs and the shade of mango trees, Kanju’s artisan partners in Malawi carefully sew, embroider, and bead each pillow onto soft, South African plush cotton, available in vibrant or subtle hues.
